“ Underrated Wagyu spot. We had two of the Japanese Wagyu sukiyaki and one of the shabu shabu and everyone left very happy and full. We eat a lot of Wagyu so we know what’s up. Our server Yu was the best they even gave us free Wagyu sushi that was also incredible! ”
“ Loved the shabu shabu. High quality wagyu. Must try the wagyu sushi. Sanjida was our server and she was very kind and helpful. Loved the energy of the place. Definitely will be coming back. ”

“ Very good selection of fine meats and a perfect date spot. The dip and eat is finely sliced and is ready to eat in seconds. Their sister store Yakiniku Gen used to be Yakiniku West on 8th! ”
“ Step away from the freezing cold and warm up with Sukiyaki Shabu Shabu Gen conveniently located in the East Village. Open the doors to this simply yet elegant restaurant filled with umami aromas. This evening, we enjoyed both the American and Japanese Wagyu sukiyaki course with a delicious potato salad and melt-in-your-mouth A5 Wagyu sashimi on their special monthly menu. We also paired with a shochu and a suntory draft beer that compliments our meal very well. The sukiyaki courses also come with an appetizer trio that prepares you for the main course. Each cut of meats simmering in the sukiyaki simply melts in your mouth bursting with flavor. Add some veggies and let the flavors seep in! Their wonderful and attentive staffs also help cook your meal to perfection. After finishing all meats and veggies, they also help simmer up some udon noodles that has the perfect texture and taste. For dessert, the set course also comes with almond pudding but I highly recommend upgrading to the matcha affogato. It cleanse your palate and leaves you refreshed. ”
“ As a longtime hotpot lover, this was my first time trying Japanese hotpot, and I absolutely loved it! Sukiyaki Shabu Shabu GEN gave me a whole new appreciation for the lighter, more refined flavors of Japanese-style hotpot. It’s not heavy or overpowering, but the comfort it brings is so real and deep. I had the Japanese Wagyu Course and American Wagyu Course, and both were incredible. The quality of the meat was amazing, so tender and flavorful. The Japanese Wagyu Sushi with Ikura, Sea Urchin and the one with Caviar were also standouts. Each bite felt like a little luxury moment. For drinks, I tried the Berry Drop and Virgin Pina Colada, both refreshing and beautifully presented. Overall, this spot is a must-visit if you’re curious about Japanese hotpot or just want a comforting, high-quality meal in a calm and welcoming atmosphere. I’ll definitely be back! ”
